Now what is faith?
Christian faith is choosing to believe, believe in the Word of God, the Bible, which was written to mankind. Just see the Bible as a kind of love letter from your Heavenly Father. Faith is also full of trust in God, in His love for you, and in His power to help you, no matter what comes your way in life.
No one can please God without faith, for whoever comes to God must have faith that God exists and rewards those who seek him. Hebrews 11, verse 6
So faith is a choice.
You need faith to become a Christian. You need to choose to believe in Jesus Christ, (in Hebrew: Yeshua HaMashiach), who took upon himself your sins, your mistakes, your shortcomings, and that by believing in Him, your sins will be forgiven. His promise is clear:
For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life. John 3, verse 16
And on the other hand, faith is also a gift of God:
For it is by God’s grace that you have been saved through faith. It is not the result of your own efforts, but God’s gift. Ephesians 2, verse 8
And it is even better to know that God chose us; we didn’t choose Him!
You didn’t choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you could go and produce fruit and so that your fruit could last. As a result, whatever you ask the Father in my name, he will give you. John 15, verse 16
To acknowledge your sins and repent from those is the very first step.
Without salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ, it is impossible to enter God’s Kingdom, Heaven, and receive eternal life, because the consequences of sin is eternal death.
When you are saved through God’s beloved Son, who died for you on the cross of Golgotha, and became alive again after 3 days, you have personally accepted this free gift of God!
The forgiveness of sins is a wonderful beginning, and brings great joy and indescribable peace to every true believer in Jesus!
It is no small thing to have the burden and guilt of sin removed from your conscience!
At this point, many people think that they are there and can just sit in their lazy chair, and expect God to do the rest for them. They don’t realize that the enemy, satan, the cunning snake, very much dislikes their new choice to become a Christian. Satan is the father of lies from the beginning, who likes to deceive many believers and non-believers with a lie. Even the Lord was tempted in his life on Earth, but He did not sin.
The next step is that you still need faith in order to obey God’s calling on your life.
So you need to read and eat God’s word daily in order to spiritually grow and to become a grown up Christian who stands firm, and not a fleshly and worldly Christian with one leg still in the world.
Jesus is the Light of the world, a light in the darkness. A life that pleases your Savior, your Rabbouni, your loving Abba, Father, is therefore also saying No to your own fleshly desires, which can still be the cause of many temptations. The next verse in Ephesians 2 tells us what God’s thoughts are for us after we experience our salvation:
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
So God has something far greater, and even more wonderful in mind for us after we have believed Him for forgiveness.
Did you know that Jesus’ life was a life of action?
Although he was the Son, he learned obedience from what he suffered. Hebrews 5:8
Jesus is our great example!
So go into action, just like Jesus did!
It is this light of Jesus’ life that you need to walk in – again, go into action! If you really want to obey God’s good laws of life found in His Word, you will soon find yourself in a battle, a struggle. Think for example of the inner battle that arises when a sinful thought tempts you, for God’s Spirit and the flesh are enemies with each other. So God’s Word wants to be a light in your life, in order to guide you in your walk with the Lord. This light also reveals sin that can still be in your life, which you didn’t want to let go of.
Jesus also tells us that you, as a new child of God, a beginner in faith, need to be baptized.
In that way God washes away all the wrong sins of the past and present, in Jesus Christ’s Name.
It is therefore important to find a full evangelical church or a Pentecostal church, and ask them to baptize you. If you allow yourself to be baptized, this is your choice in obedience, a kind of entering into a covenant, a marriage, with Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach. You need to maintain a good relationship by talking with the Lord, just like in a relationship between husband and wife, by talking things out. And so it is with the Lord. A prayer is the beginning of a relationship.
Did you know that the Holy Spirit only becomes really active after the baptism?
The Holy Spirit is the One who wants to be involved in your life. The Holy Spirit wants to work, even in your feelings, and wants you to bear fruit!
Faith opens the door to a victorious life!
By faith, you can truly be more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ, because He now lives in you through His Holy Spirit in you. Also, it is good to know that God now looks through your very eyes and sees what you are seeing and watching.
Without asking forgiveness of your sins in prayer, and without being born again through adult baptism, and giving yourself with your heart 100%, you will never see the Kingdom of God.
